Week two of the terminally laid-back medical drama opens arrestingly enough: a nude, muscular man wades into the sea, later washing up unconscious on the beach. At the hospital that’s our base in tropical south India, he wakes and says he has no idea who he is.
That’s one of several stories that are resolved far too simply, with what dramatic momentum there is coming from naive doc Ruby (Amrita Acharia). She is tossed constantly from one case to another – under the mercurial tutelage of Dr Fonseca (Amanda Redman), who has an endless stock of weak epigrams in lieu of a character. Meanwhile, Ruby’s love-hate flirt with Dr Varma (James Floyd) intensifies when she finds out why he’s grumpy.
Ruby gets to grips with her challenging new routine working at the under-resourced and overworked hospital, but tension mounts when she begins to question Gabriel's professional conduct. The doctors have a troubling mystery on their hands when an unidentified man is discovered washed up on the beach, and also face a race against the clock to find a local snake catcher whose luck may have run out, leaving him in urgent need of treatment. Medical drama set in India, starring Amrita Acharia and Amanda Redman.
