Series 16 - Episode 38

No dinner jackets or glad rags for the 1,000th episode, just an inspired, endearing twist: our pair of hosts swap roles, so Richard Osman stands centre stage while Alexander Armstrong offers back-up from the desk. This proves daftly enjoyable, as the show teeters on the point of collapse at various points: “I think we’re both appreciating that the other person’s job is harder than it looks,” mutters Osman.

Regulars will know that Osman often has to recite his little rubric about countries (“And by country I mean a sovereign state which is a member of the UN” etc). For Armstrong, no such chore: it has been made into a special jingle he can play at will.

Amid the fun, there’s sharp quizzing, too, with special contestants including the pair who once won a £24,750 jackpot and the winners of the very first edition, back in August 2009.

The 1,000th episode of the quiz show in which pairs of contestants try to score the fewest points possible by giving the least obvious correct answers to questions posed to 100 people before the show. At the end of each round, the team with the most points is eliminated until the final two pairs battle for the chance to compete for a cash prize. Presented by Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman.
