The Brits Are Coming

The Brits Are Coming

David Bowie was given a posthumous Icon award at last year’s Brits, but this year he could get a posthumous best album award for Blackstar, one of the bestsellers of 2016. Emma Willis will reveal whether the Blackstar man is in the running in this live show announcing the nominations.

The Brits voting system has been overhauled, in an attempt to improve diversity, with an increase in the number of minority and female voters. Whether that means Bowie will be overlooked, as he was at the Mercury Prize, remains to be seen – though it could play well for the resurgent Craig David, who was famously snubbed in 2001.

Emma Willis hosts a special live show launching this year's music award ceremony, which is due to take place on Wednesday, February 22 at London's O2 arena. This programme serves as the formal announcement of this year's nominees, revealing which artists are in the running to receive gongs for Best British Single, Best British Breakthrough Act and Best British Album of the Year. Includes performances by Olly Murs, Calum Scott, Christine and the Queens, Craig David and this year's Critics' Choice winner Rag'n Bone Man.
