Review

Adele’s Carpool Karaoke with James Corden has scaled remarkable heights on YouTube. Quite right, too, it’s a perfect 15-minute encapsulation of the Adele magic. There’s her remarkable singing voice soaring like a golden eagle, there’s the laugh like a rolling beer-barrel and there’s her sense of fun and mischief.

In this gig, recorded in 2015 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall to coincide with the release of her album 25, Adele has the audience in her grasp from the second she walks on stage to sing Hello. She’s introduced by US talk show host Jimmy Fallon as “a once-in-a-generation artist”, which sounds like an extravagant claim. But maybe he’s right.

Expect lots of behind-the-scenes footage, fan “interactions” (she’s good at those; audience members have been known to propose to one another on stage with her) and, of course, the songs.

Summary

The Grammy award-winning singer performs in the Big Apple at Radio City Music Hall, showcasing songs from her third studio album, 25, which featured material referencing the passage of time, motherhood and regret. She also performs landmark songs from throughout her career, so Hello, Skyfall, Rolling in the Deep, Chasing Pavements, When We Were Young, Someone Like You and Make You Feel My Love may well also get an airing. Cameras also capture exclusive access to the artist's preparations for the event.
