It’s always fun learning the history of the items brought in to Antiques Roadshow, whether it’s a hearing aid belonging to Queen Victoria or a brooch belonging to Aunt Hilda. So this series, revealing the historical significance of artefacts sold at auction, has a similar fascination.

In this edition there’s a clock that was looted from a Nazi battleship and a Cork house so stuffed with antiques it’s like a time capsule of Irish history and British colonial pomp. And for fans of the undead, there’s a tatty little book entitled The Vampyre written by English physician John Polidori 78 years before Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Artefacts for sale at auction are examined to reveal their historical significance, including items linked to German warships, vampire mythology, and Queen Victoria's coronation.
