Review

This is the kind of documentary that puzzles as it dazzles. It’s hard to make sense of what we’re looking at: pairs of total strangers who don’t just look identical, but have the same mannerisms, the same sense of humour and often the same job.

The programme unites seven sets of doppelgangers, including Darren and David, who look like twins, work as nightclub managers, are both gay with well-groomed facial hair, and come from Scotland and Poland respectively. The life stories of lookalikes Neil and John – both now in their 70s – are delightfully similar, even down to the fact that each has a son who plays the didgeridoo. What does it all mean? Who knows, but it’s amazing to watch.

Summary

A documentary offering an insight into the social media-fuelled phenomenon of people seeking to find their twin stranger. In a unique experiment, seven non-related pairs agree to undergo a series of cutting-edge tests to uncover the science behind twin-like similarities in complete strangers, aiming to prove if these shared similar attributes are more than sheer coincidence.
