Review

A car alarm going off at three in the morning is tonight’s starting point, from which – you won’t be surprised to hear – Beth’s various neighbours descend on her one by one, requesting food and drink while casually insulting both.

Sometimes Two Doors Down is so uneventful it almost vanishes (there are scenes tonight where they just listen to the shipping forecast or try to yawn) but the characters are well drawn and a finely judged combination of grotesque and believable.

Tonight is a tour de force from sour slob Christine (Elaine C Smith), who fires off random complaints about bungalows (“You get an awful lot of spiders in them”), the Army, her bladder, Mr Blobby and Sky News.

Summary

The neighbours are woken in the middle of the night when a car alarm goes off and after meeting Eric in the street while searching for the source of the noise, Colin and Christine invite themselves to the Bairds for a cup of tea - with Cathy and Sophie not far behind. Soon an impromptu late-night party is underway, despite the unwilling hosts just wanting to go to their beds. Comedy, starring Arabella Weir, Alex Norton, Doon Mackichan, Jonathan Watson, Elaine C Smith and Sharon Rooney.
