Review

The Hubble Space Telescope has been so useful to astronomers and astrophysicists that a gallop through its greatest discoveries – which is what this peppy US documentary is – forms an excellent primer on the basics of modern space science.

The birth of stars, the formation of planets, the process by which stars run out of fuel and explode to form supernovae, and the day five billion years in the future when our Sun obliterates the solar system with an expanding cloud of scorching gas? All of them are now understood thanks to observations made using Hubble, as is the murky concept of dark matter. Experts excitedly look back on the moment Hubble gave them their big breakthrough.

Summary

The most amazing images of the universe captured by the space telescope, and a look at plans to launch a new and more advanced satellite in 2018.
