Deep Water

Series 1 - Episode 1

Review

This sun-kissed crime drama was a big deal in its native Australia. It formed part of a multimedia project from public broadcaster SBS, exploring police investigations in Sydney into whether more than 80 deaths stretching back to the 1970s should be reclassified as gay hate murders.

In the drama the mutilated corpse of a young man is discovered in his Bondi beach apartment, and it soon becomes apparent that someone is targeting homosexuals.

Into this febrile atmosphere steps detective Tori Lustigman (Yael Stone), who’s just transferred from “the country”, butts heads with her male colleagues, and has a troubled past. So despite the intriguing premise, it’s all fairly routine.
