Review

Series two of the David Duchovny cop drama comes to Sky Atlantic. What – you don’t remember it? Well, series one made barely a ripple on the TV pond here, but it’s an interesting, odd show. Set in 1967 Los Angeles, it features Duchovny as an old-school, “kids these days” cop out of step with the counterculture. His Detective Sam Hodiak is quirky, hard-bitten and endlessly watchable, but much screen time is given over to other strands, notably Charles Manson (Gethin Anthony) and his embryonic “family” of hippies, and at the other extreme some shady lawyers who are local allies of Richard Nixon. It’s all a bit uneven but has a nicely ominous mood and, when Duchovny is on screen, plenty of dry wit.

Summary

The detective is put to work on a new case when he receives packages containing images of missing girls. Period crime drama, starring David Duchovny.
