Linking that very word “conspiracies” with any appalling tragedy always strikes fury into my heart as no one needs to give airtime to anyone’s half-baked paranoid theories.
This documentary to mark the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York looks anew at the various conspiracy theories that persist to this day: for instance, that the towers were blown up with explosives. While insisting some are “wacky”, it says some are “credible” and there are contributions from theorists.
There are claims that “the truth” about what happened on that clear, sunny day still hasn’t been satisfactorily explained to the wider public, including why the hijackers who would wreak such devastation weren’t intercepted and stopped.
Victims' relatives, a senior politician and people working inside the intelligence agencies at the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks discuss their belief of a cover-up. Ever since the atrocities, the conspiracy theories - some credible, some downright wacky - have been claimed and counter-claimed, but 15 years later serious concerns remain that the real story surrounding that fateful day is yet to be told, as polls reveal that half of Americans still don't think they've been told the whole story.
