S11-E2 Coast: The Great Guide: Southern Wales

Catch Up

Southern Wales has been a regular stopping-off point for the Coast team during the past ten years, and in the second of these extended guides Neil Oliver and Tessa Dunlop comb the beaches and byways of an area that runs from the Severn Bridge to St David’s.

Tessa Dunlop, never a woman to turn down a challenge, embraces the thrills of coastal rowing which is very much like ordinary rowing though done at sea (of course). She’s going to need a bigger boat! That’s because conditions on the open water are considerably harsher than on a river.

She has a go at cockle picking in Penclawdd, and marvels at the lovely Gower Peninsula, Britain’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Tessa Dunlop and Neil Oliver present an insider guide to Southern Wales, from the Severn Bridge to St Davids, as they unearth the coast's wild appeal. Tessa builds on 10 years of Coast stories from the area as she seeks new tales and extreme experiences for the guide, including coastal rowing, exploring why Gower was made Britain's first area of outstanding natural beauty, kayaking at Worm's head, and cockle picking at Penclawdd.
