Episode 1: Mr Weaver

Summary

Fantasy comedy starring James Buckley. A bored office worker is transported to a parallel world of wizards and warriors by a magic amulet

Review

Oddly, this is the second series of the year to feature a former Inbetweener travelling to parallel worlds (the other was E4’s similarly titled Tripped, starring Blake Harrison), but this new effort is the superior specimen.

Following James Buckley’s office temp as he’s accidentally thrown into a parallel fantasy world of fairies and magic, it’s a surprisingly well-crafted comedy with some great one-liners and a standout performance from Game of Thrones’ Paul Kaye as an inept and drunken wizard.

Sure, not all the gags land – a running joke about the Mage Wars in particular is a little weak – but overall it’s a solid start for a debutante series, with some moments almost Pythonesque in their sublime silliness.
