Episode 8: The Wirral 2016

Summary

Stuart and Rosie Treasurer from the Wirral plan to transform a small bungalow from a 1960s dormer into a slick piece of 21st-century architecture. The couple decapitate the building and balance a new floating timber box on top to create five bedrooms, spending as little as possible on plumbing, electrics and insulation, but stress levels spiral when neighbours grumble at the ultra-modern creation

Review

Mary Martin and Carl Turner are a pair of minimalists who want to live in a stack of giant glass cubes. Which is fair enough, but these glass cubes will have to snuggle into the traditional Victorian terraces of Brixton in south London.

The couple have renovated houses in the past in their quest to make their homes as simple to live in as possible. But the cubes project is their biggest and most complex. It is also hugely expensive and pushes their finances as far as they can go.

Carl has to take on as many of the specialist jobs as possible and
the whole building work is on a knife edge – just the tiniest problem with the detail could be catastrophic.
