Review

This series has brought us hard-edged investigative journalism about a notoriously difficult country to report on. And it turns out that that one and a half million viewers are willing to watch a serious-minded look at a tricky geo-political hotspot.

BBC2 isn’t short of lifestyle programmes and factual entertainment; so how about more global reportage, maybe along the lines of Channel 4’s long-running Unreported World? For the final episode, the focus is on how the ruling family of Saudi Arabia remains in control and the boundless wealth that oils its levers of power – as well as recent developments that could threaten that power.

Summary

Examining how Saudi Arabia's most revered family stays in power, featuring interviews with those who have worked for Saudi princes. They describe how the wealth allowed lives of privilege and pleasure out of the spotlight. But the growth of social media has meant Saudis are getting increasing insight into the behaviour of their rulers, including their transgressions. Last in the series.
