The comedian’s 8,000-mile odyssey along the 2,000-year-old trade route begins at its eastern end in the city of Xi’an. It’s home to the Terracotta Army, but Baddiel eschews archaeology in favour of a hectic street market where he stocks up on supplies (including medicinal tea but not the “lychee concubine” variety) as merchants would have done millennia ago.
As ever, he’s good company and game – especially when he discovers that China invented football and takes to the pitch to defend England’s honour.
The comedian and broadcaster embarks on a mission to traverse the 2,000-year-old trading route, taking in some of the road's most intriguing sights.
