Welcome to Midsomer Cicely: a lovely village full of unlovely villagers. It’s also full of archaeologists who are working on a dig at a local farm and who fit right in – they’re all nasty characters who hate each other.
So in short: a nest of vipers inside another nest of vipers. Plenty for Barnaby to work his snake-charming skills on when one of the archaeologists is murdered – chloroformed then buried alive, in what turns out to be the evening’s least colourful murder method.
Possible motives are everywhere: professional rivalry, sibling rivalry, relic rivalry (the dig uncovered bones that might discredit a martyr’s remains at the local church). “Be sure that your sins will find you out,” one cleric tells another, which should be the Causton CID mission statement. Or on Barnaby’s coat of arms.
A Saint's bones are discovered during an archaeological dig, causing a stir in the village of Midsomer Cicely. However, when the dig's leader is murdered, DCI Barnaby and DS Nelson are presented with a complex investigation as they hunt for the perpetrator. As the duo unearth more evidence, they soon discover that it is not only skeletons that have been long buried in the hallowed ground. Detective drama, starring Neil Dudgeon, Gwilym Lee, Manjinder Virk, Fiona Dolman and Malcolm Sinclair.
