Review

The pictures are astounding, though the commentary by awestruck members of the British public confronted by bad weather isn’t exactly poetry, running the gamut from “it’s good, innit?” to “it’s crazy aht ’ere”.

But who can blame hapless amateur observers as they grope for words in the face of yet another year of bonkers weather, from hailstones in North Yorkshire that laid waste to a nursery’s greenhouses to mountainous North Sea tides.

There can be serious consequences. A Brecon Beacons walker tells how a freak lightning bolt felled him and killed a friend, and we accompany a heroic mountain rescue team as they recover two shivering walkers in a snowstorm.
