Prepare to stop up your ears against the screams – One Direction are Ross’s guests tonight. You can probably hear the adolescent roar right now.
The boys have been the object of particular scrutiny during the past few months after the departure of Zayn Malik and their subsequent announcement that they plan to take a “hiatus” next year, each to do their own thing.
But, dry your eyes, there’s still a new album, the dreadfully named Made in the AM, and the band will perform two songs on the show tonight. Stadium-filling stand-up comedian Michael McIntyre, who’s recently had some choice words to say about his embittered, not-so-successful rivals, also guest-stars.
The One Direction boys join Jonathan in the studio following the conclusion of their global tour. Earlier in August, as the chart-topping pop-stars embarked on the final UK leg of their exhaustive gig schedule, news broke that Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Liam Payne would be going on an `extended hiatus' in 2016 to focus on solo work. The announcement prompted the hearts of Directioners worldwide to skip a beat, fearing the boys might be about to split for good, but the group has since insisted that this is not the end for One Direction. Here, the lads perform two songs, and speak to Jonathan about their decision to take a break. Also taking a seat on the sofa is comedian Michael McIntyre, whose own UK tour Happy and Glorious draws to a close next week.
