Four solid hours of Homer’s best moments, which of course means the show’s best – more than half of this selection are classics. We kick off with season three’s Colonel Homer – the only instalment with a script credited solely to series creator Matt Groening – which introduced doe-eyed country singer Lurleen Lumpkin.

Other standouts include Oh Brother, Where Art Thou, with Danny DeVito as Homer’s car magnate half-brother; the 2006 Emmy winner The Seemingly Never-Ending Story; the cute flashback episode I Married Marge; and one of the greatest episodes of all time, Flaming Moe’s.

Homer gets trapped in a cave after trying to acquire a piece of stalactite during a family walk, leaving Marge, Maggie and Bart to go in search of help. As they wait, Lisa passes the time by telling her father a long and very strange tale in which she seeks refuge at Mr Burns' mansion.
