Review

Anything featuring Boris Johnson’s family promises to be both interesting and entertaining, but this documentary focuses not on the vociferous Boris, Leo, Rachel and Stanley, but on the one who normally shuns the glare of the spotlight: Boris’s mum, Charlotte Johnson Wahl.

She’s a talented artist, who can move from society portraiture to vibrant street scenes reminiscent of vorticism, but importantly for the film, she’s had a pretty interesting life, too – traipsing around Europe after her husband, Stanley, dealing with his womanising, suffering a breakdown and receiving dreadful therapy at the Maudsley hospital. She deserves to steal a bit of the limelight from the rest of her family.

Summary

Documentary about artist Charlotte Johnson Wahl, the mother of politician Boris Johnson, exploring the challenges she has faced throughout her life.
