It’s hard to remember when a television series was anticipated with such breathless expectation as
2, shown earlier this year. Chris Chibnall’s masterly first series two years previously had been a huge hit, talk-about TV at its best.
So series two had much to live up to and inevitably didn’t please everyone. But it stands up to a second viewing, as we eavesdrop on the aftermath of the murder of young Danny Latimer, opening with the prosecution of his killer. Detective Alec Hardy (David Tennant) is back, along with the understandably angry and harrowed Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) as she desperately tries to hold her family together and face the judgement of her community.
Second series of the acclaimed crime drama set in a Dorset seaside town. The murder of 11-year-old Danny Latimer rocked Broadchurch, as DI Alec Hardy - still haunted by the collapse of a previous case - was put in charge of the investigation. Many local residents came under suspicion, including the victim's father Mark, before Joe Miller finally gave a lengthy confession, ending weeks of speculation. In this first episode, Miller shocks everyone by pleading not guilty. David Tennant and Olivia Colman star.
