The further former detective Mark Williams-Thomas looks into the murky case of the disappearance of Carole Packman, the muddier the waters become.
Carole Packman’s husband Russell Causley was jailed for her murder, though no body was ever found. In the penultimate episode of his investigation, Williams-Thomas makes contact with Causley’s mistress, who moved into the family home while Carole was still living there.
We hear, too, from Carole and Causley’s daughter Sam, who gave evidence in court against her father at his murder trial. “I said something or other and he smirked. I remember actually looking across at him and saying, ‘You may well smirk. This isn’t funny. This really is not funny to have to do this.’”
Mark Williams-Thomas continues his investigation into the disappearance of Carole Packman, looking deeper into the relationship of her husband Russell and his mistress Patricia. One of Patricia's old boyfriends gives his account of how the couple behaved after the disappearance, and Mark also discovers that five years after, someone claiming to be Carole signed over her half of the family home to Patricia. A handwriting expert helps Mark find answers.
