Wild Australia with Ray Mears

Series 1 - Episode 3 Bush

Today 3pm - 3:30pm Nat Geo Wild

When Ray Mears isn’t branding every other animal “iconic”, he has a wonderful turn of phrase for the creatures he sees on his trip Down Under. A koala sleepily dangling from a eucalyptus tree is “slumped like a commuter on a London train at the end of the week”; a mob of male eastern grey kangaroos, oozing machismo while they stand guard, “look like they should almost have a can of lager in their hands”.

Also on his Aussie checklist is the “iconic” duck-billed platypus and the less well-known spot-tailed tiger quoll, a carnivorous marsupial that’s in danger of dying out.

Ray explores the Bush in the state of Victoria and tracks down two Australian icons - the kangaroo and the koala. He also canoes across a secret lake in search of the elusive duck-billed platypus, one of the only mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth.
