Gok's Lunchbox

Series 1 - Episode 5

Review

You’ll have to ignore the lunchbox innuendos if you are to stomach this daily cookery competition. Gok Wan, who’s pretty good in the kitchen, you may recall, gives three amateur cooks a box containing the same mystery ingredients.

Having attempted to identify chorizo or fennel or gurnard, they have an hour in their own kitchen to create a dish from them (with a surprise one that Gok brings them partway through the process). The finished dish is then blind-tasted by the friends or family members who nominated them.

Generally what’s plated up looks ghastly, but it’s good fun and Gok does offer a few culinary tips along the way.

Summary

Competitive estate agent Rikki, experimental mum-of-two Claire and tradition-loving Sarah-Jane are tasked by Gok Wan to rustle up a fish dish to remember from the same mystery ingredients. A cash prize of £250 is on offer to the person whose offering proves most pleasing to the host's eyes and tastebuds.
