Sue Barker introduces the opening matches on day four at the All England Club, where the second-round ties in the men's and ladies' singles are scheduled to reach a conclusion, including Gilles Muller v Roger Federer, Jerzy Janowicz v Lleyton Hewitt and Ana Ivanovic v Jie Zheng. The fourth day last year was affected by rain, leading to a number of matches being held over until the Friday. While this was slightly disruptive for the players involved, the leading seeds at least managed to avoid the chaos that ensued on the opening three days, which was marked by the likes of Federer and Rafael Nadal being defeated, and a high rate of withdrawals due to injury. In the men's draw, Milos Raonic was the highest-ranked casualty, losing to Igor Sijsling, but there were relatively straightforward wins for Novak Djokovic, Tomas Berdych, Juan Martin del Potro and Richard Gasquet, who all booked their places in the last 32. The crowd on Court Two were no doubt disappointed that British hope Laura Robson was kept in the locker room by the rain, but they at least had the consolation of seeing Sabine Lisicki in action, as the German won in straight sets against Elena Vesnina on her way to reaching the final for the first time.
