Sue Barker introduces live coverage at the start of the second day on the grass courts of the All England Club, where the first-round matches in the men's and ladies' singles are scheduled to continue, including Paolo Lorenzi v Roger Federer, Martin Klizan v Rafael Nadal, Samantha Murray v Maria Sharapova, Heather Watson v Ajla Tomljanovic and Kaia Kanepi v Jelena Jankovic. With defending ladies' champion Marion Bartoli no longer competing, the honour of opening proceedings on Centre Court will fall to runner-up Sabine Lisicki against Julia Glushko, with several former winners in attendance, including Serena and Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova. Sharapova won the French Open earlier this month, but her recent record here is surprisingly poor given her talent, with only one appearance past the fourth round in the last seven attempts, when she lost in the 2011 final to Kvitova. Day two last year was certainly not short on drama, with Britain's Laura Robson delighting the home crowd in her 6-3, 6-4 victory over 10th seed Maria Kirilenko, although compatriot Heather Watson exited at the hands of Madison Keys. Philipp Kohlschreiber, Gilles Simon and Sam Querrey were the men's seeds to bow out, but there was no such difficulty for Novak Djokovic, as he beat Florian Mayer in straight sets, although the Serbian's chief contribution last year was to become the loser in Andy Murray's finest hour on Centre Court in the final.
