Sue Barker presents the opening live coverage of the day at the All England Club, where the ladies' singles semi-finals take centre stage, beginning with Lucie Safarova v Petra Kvitova. The two matches at this stage last year could hardly have been a greater contrast. Eventual champion Marion Bartoli got things under way on Centre Court against Kirsten Flipkens, who had previously never progressed further than the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament. That inexperience told on her big day in the spotlight, with Bartoli crushing her 6-1, 6-2 to reach the final. There she would face Sabine Lisicki, who was made to work immeasurably harder in her semi-final against Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska, who was the highest-seeded player left in the draw. Lisicki won the first set and Radwanska the second, before the German held her nerve to claim the decider 9-7 and book her place in her first Grand Slam tournament final.
