Review

Whether it’s free-falling 30,000 feet, encountering a sandstorm, avoiding flash floods or camping beside scorpions, “with just some basic knowledge you can survive this,” Grylls assures us. He’s up to his usual death-defying antics, this time in the USA’s Mojave Desert with the mercury rising to 102º F.

Not all the dangers are readily apparent so the programme-makers have to engineer a feeble-looking sandstorm with wind machines, while a deluge created by tankers holding 24,000 gallons of water leaves Bear looking more like a berk. Other dubious pleasures include Bear donning snake boots and chaps to take on a diamond-backed rattlesnake and — yet again — recycling his own pee. He’s that kind of guy.

Summary

The former Special Forces adventurer heads to the Mojave Desert, where he puts himself in the path of a man-made sandstorm, takes on a flash flood and jumps from 30,000ft.
