Soccer Aid 2014: The Countdown

Soccer Aid 2014: The Countdown

Since it was started by Robbie Williams in 2006, Soccer Aid has become something a bit special. On the one hand the pro-celebrity football match raises serious funds for Unicef; on the other it provides guaranteed sporting absurdity.

Remember Zinedine Zidane deftly nutmegging Damian Lewis? Teddy Sheringham flattening Gordon Ramsay? Or the guitarist from Kasabian putting a perfect lob over David Seaman? These are the kind of semi-surreal moments only Soccer Aid throws up.

As a curtain-raiser for the match itself, Cat Deeley meets up with the celebs-in-training, including Williams, Michael Sheen, James McAvoy, Olly Murs and John Bishop.

A look ahead to Sunday's charity football match between England and the Rest of the World at Old Trafford. Cat Deeley is at the players' hotel, where she reveals the celebrities and former professionals representing each team, chats to some of the stars taking part and presents highlights of the past week's training sessions. Back in 2012, England captain Robbie Williams led his team to victory over Michael Sheen's Rest of the World squad, so the Welsh actor will be out for revenge. Does he have any secret weapons this time round? All will be revealed tonight.
