Ahead of the yearly parade of brash and trash comes the now-traditional filtration process. The first semi-final is awash with sad ballads, or sallads. Scything through the swathes of earnestness are Pollaponk (Iceland’s answer to Supergrass), a nutty Portuguese Lambada and Latvia’s strummed paean to cake baking (“Mix some dough, add some love…”).
Scott Mills and Laura Whitmore host coverage of the first semi-final, live from Copenhagen in Denmark. Sixteen acts perform, but only 10 will go through to the Grand Final on Saturday. The presenters also talk to the UK's entry, Molly, and discuss all things Eurovision.
