Review

The rules of crime dramas have changed post-Broadchurch and The Killing in that we now focus just as much on the grieving families left behind as we do on the whodunnit aspect.

The same ethos is currently being applied to EastEnders, where questions about the perpetrator are taking second place to the emotional torment of the Beales and Ian in particular, who isn’t even comforted by a visit from Dot.

In private, it seems that secrets are swirling and fissures are forming: Cindy gets both barrels when it’s felt that Lucy’s memory has been tainted, while Denise is also feeling deep guilt. Expect grim but compulsive viewing.

Summary

The Beales are still numb with grief, and while Dot attempts to console the family, it all proves too much for Peter, whose only comfort is a visit from Lauren. To add to their woes, the police arrive to search Lucy's room for evidence - but when they conduct interviews, Ian is furious with Cindy's lack of respect for her dead sister and he makes a drastic decision. At the same time, Denise is left feeling guilty after finding out why her fiance kept things from her.
