Curiosity: The Cave

In the Mexican mountains, there is a narrow crack in the rock. No one knows exactly where this hole ends, but if extreme caver and expedition leader Bill Stone is correct, it could be one of the deepest caves in the world.

This is a truly terrifying expedition, an inverted Mount Everest of claustrophobic crawls, pitch-black chasms and unexplored flooded passages, or “sumps”. Deep down, 3,500ft beneath the surface, expert cave divers Phil Short and Marcin Gala are preparing to swim into one of these capillaries in the mountain. It has taken them 26 days and six truckloads of equipment to reach this point, but now they are on their own. How far does this underwater shaft go? There’s only one way to find out.

A team of explorers push the limits of human endurance for living and working underground by travelling to the bottom of one of the deepest caves on Earth.
