Hopefully you’ll have been limbering up all day so that you can take out your credit card and make a donation to Sport Relief without pulling a muscle or straining your bank balance. Suitably warmed up, you can then coast throughout this six-hour marathon with just the occasional stretch to reach your refreshments.
The entertainment sets off at a cracking pace with two celebrity teams attempting sports such as rhythmic gymnastics and synchronised swimming. DJs Nick Grimshaw and Greg James and comedy actress Sally Phillips are probably ruing the day they said yes to this. Later there’s a Strictly Come Dancing special from four paralympians; David Beckham on Only Fools and Horses; Mock the Week sketches; and music from Little Mix and Kylie Minogue.
It’s not all fun and games, though. David Tennant and Davina McCall are among those presenting harrowing films that show how why your money is needed. So s-t-r-e-t-c-h for your credit card to make a donation. You’ll feel better for it.
Leading lights in the worlds of sport, music and entertainment join forces for the biennial fundraiser, an evening of entertainment with one aim - to raise money for charity projects in Britain and other countries. 7pm Gary Lineker and David Walliams kick off the evening's fun, which for the first time is being broadcast live from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Little Mix get the entertainment started with the Sport Relief single, Word Up. There will also be the first event in Clash of the Titans, in which funnyman and Sport Relief hero John Bishop and Olympic medal-winner Sebastian Coe - the man behind London 2012 - captain two teams of celebrities in a series of head-to-head sporting challenges. Those competing are Patrick Kielty, Andrew `Freddie' Flintoff, Olly Murs, Richard Bacon and Greg James. Clare Balding and Gabby Logan report on the action as the amateurs take on rhythmic gymnastics, synchronised swimming, a swimming relay and, first up, track cycling. Alex Jones is also in the studio to talk about her extraordinary rock-climbing challenge and Paralympians David Clarke, Hannah Cockroft, Nathan Stephens and Martine Wright swap their sports kits for sequins as they take to the floor in a Strictly Come Dancing special. 8.30pm Davina McCall joins the presenting team and relives her arduous charity challenge, Kylie Minogue performs her 1988 duet Especially for You with a surprise singing partner, and the next round of Clash of the Titans sees Patrick Kielty take on Greg James in the synchronised swimming - which should be good for a few laughs. Speaking of which, David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst are reunited in an Only Fools and Horses sketch, more than 10 years since the last new episode was broadcast, and Peckham has a very special visitor in the shape of football legend David Beckham. Then there's music by heart-throbs Boyzone and, before the news, the Clash of the Titans all-star rhythmic gymnastics. Continues on BBC2.
