Ben Fogle yomps into the Himalayas where, at 6,500 feet. he meets Steve Lall, owner of the beautiful Jilling estate of preserved forest that snuggles high above the clouds.
Lall, 69, is a former Indian Air Force fighter pilot and thorough-going contrarian. Thrown out of the service for refusing to take orders, his despairing parents set him to running Jilling where he and his wife are subsistence farmers. “It’s like I’ve stepped on to the set of Jurassic Park,” says the cheery and wide-eyed Fogle as he practises how to shoo away leopards (clap and roar).
Fogle does presenter-out-of-water things like having a go at milking a buffalo (“I’m usually very gentle with nipples”) and helping to dig a waterhole for animals.
Ben journeys to the foothills of the Indian Himalayas to spend time with 69-year-old former fighter pilot Steve Lall, who has opted for a simple farmer's life in the mountains. Ben gets hands-on with the harsh subsistence lifestyle, ploughing with buffalo, chasing both monkeys and human intruders, and gravedigging.
