The Great British Sewing Bee Christmas Special

The Great British Sewing Bee Christmas Special

It’s nearly Christmas and the Bee-hive, that lovely haberdashery-packed room, is packed with pattern and sparkle. The quartet of semi-finalists from The Great British Sewing Bee earlier this year – Sandra, Stuart, Lauren and of course the winner, delightful Ann – return for hugs, chats and communal sewing.

Under the watchful eyes of Bee judges Patrick Grant and May Martin, each sewer contributes a pattern to a table runner before striking out on their own with a home-made Christmas gift (though as Stuart – now a star who is mobbed by ladies at craft fairs – says, home-made presents “aren’t for everyone’). Ann makes a teddy bear, Stuart a tweed satchel for his partner because “boys need bags, too” and Lauren a mini doll’s house. And, of course, the Bee-tree is decorated with everyone’s made-from-scratch baubles. It’s all rather charming.

Judges Patrick Grant and May Martin reunite with the show's semi-finalists Stuart, Sandra and Lauren and winner Ann to pool their experience and talents to make everything from Christmas table linen to exquisite tree decorations. Ann demonstrates how to create a teddy bear, Stuart produces a tweed satchel, Sandra puts together a gardening belt and Lauren constructs a fabric doll's house. As they sew, they all share stories of their own family Christmas traditions.
