Episode 1: Series 1 Episode 1

Summary

The Christmas stock arrives in the middle of a heat wave, and the series meets some of Liberty's most interesting customers, including a wealthy VIP who sees Liberty as his local corner shop.

Review

The huge successes of Inside John Lewis and Inside Claridge’s on BBC2 have shown that viewers have a real appetite for peeking behind the scenes of big-name, high-end ‘brands’, for want of a better word.

So it was only a matter of time before that poshest of posh shops, Liberty, flung open its doors to the cameras. If you’ve ever been, you’ll know it’s almost intimidatingly cathedral-like, albeit a cathedral filled with expensive handbags, scarves and pricey trinkets.

Naturally, Channel 4 has been given “unprecedented access” (not that precedented access we are all waiting for, one day it will surely come) to Liberty as it gears up for its most important and showy time of the year. As 40,000 festive baubles arrive at the height of a hot summer, we watch the store’s 400 staff work flat out to put the Christmas sparkle into Liberty profits.
