Tim Marlow: Great Artists

Episode 12 Schiele

The final episode in the series offers a profile of Austrian expressionist painter Egon Schiele, who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and was a protege of Gustav Klimt. In his search for sexual identity, Schiele's increasingly erotic pieces caused a storm of controversy, most notably in the scathing work The Cardinal and the Nun. Critical acclaim eluded him, despite his acceptance into the Vienna Sezession movement in 1917, and he died at the age of 28 just one year later. Last in the series.
