“The pigs have arrived!” glows hunky Tom. There’s been much excited porcine-based chatter at the Abbey during the past few weeks, but they are here at last. In fact, everyone reminds us of their presence, just in case we forget. “Did the pigs arrive?” someone asks. Yes, they’ve arrived. Someone even wishes someone else “Good luck with the pigs”. Because they’ve arrived, did you hear? Lady Mary and the presentable Charles Blake even have some carefree, pig-centred fun, because the pigs have arrived. There’s even a joke about “saving bacon”. Hang on to your sides.
Elsewhere, Lady Edith and Lady Rose (without pigs) go to London, where Rose meets her gentleman friend. And an entirely pig-free Lord Grantham sails urgently to America. “That will keep me warm as I cross the raging seas,” he tells Cora after she proffers her love.
Did I mention that the pigs have arrived?
Cora's playboy brother Harold has got himself into a spot of bother and Robert has to make a trip to America to bail him out. Blake and Mary are forced to put aside their differences to deal with the new farming venture on the estate, and help comes from an unlikely quarter when Violet is taken ill. Meanwhile, Mrs Hughes, Mrs Patmore and Carson try to keep the peace when romantic tensions cause disagreements downstairs. Hugh Bonneville, Julian Ovenden, Michelle Dockery and Maggie Smith star in the costume drama.
