Marvel's Agents of SHIELD

S1-E1 Pilot

S1-E1 Pilot

What happens after the day is saved? You call in the Agents of SHIELD. This is a spin-off from the superhero blockbuster Avengers Assemble, but don’t expect Iron Man or the Hulk to show up. A TV budget wouldn’t stretch to the olive in Robert Downey Jr’s martini.

Instead, this follows a government team who deal with the superpowered and just plain weird. Nerds will squeal at the comic-book references, but everyone should be able to enjoy this smart, exciting first episode.

It’s from Joss Whedon, the man behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and his witty handling of pop culture is clear. It’s genuinely funny without making fun of the premise, a feat that’s almost superheroic in itself.

Clark Gregg reprises his regular film role as Agent Phil Coulson in the pilot episode of the comic-book drama co-created by Joss Whedon. Coulson assembles a select group of highly skilled operatives to investigate strange new cases, beginning with a mission to track down a man who has acquired extraordinary powers. Co-starring Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Iain de Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge, with a guest appearance by Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother).
