Part One

Series 10 - Episode 14 Part One

It’s a big week for the X Factor contestants, now in their second round of live shows. They can’t fall back on “first show nerves” if they hit a bum note, forget the words or run off stage crying: it’s make or break now. The acts will probably be pretending to hold a phone up to the camera, flashing their huge puppy-dog eyes, in the hope of clocking up a few more votes. That totally works, right? I all but run for the phone.

Indeed, after the introduction of the new ten-minute “flash vote” in last week’s show, which sees the least popular act put straight into tomorrow’s sing-off, anything could happen. Time to warm up those vocal cords.

Last week, Sharon Osbourne abstained from voting when two of her acts - Shelley Smith and Lorna Simpson - ended up in the bottom two, and it was student Lorna who got the boot. Now, the aspiring pop stars aim to show their softer sides as they perform songs on the theme Love and Heartbreak in the second live studio round. Gary Barlow looks after the groups, Louis Walsh mentors the boys, Nicole Scherzinger has got the girls and Sharon is with her remaining two over-25s. Near the end of the show, the voting lines will open briefly, giving viewers the chance to save their favourite act from the bottom two. Dermot O'Leary will then announce the act with the lowest number of votes - a day earlier than in previous years.
