Toast of London

S1-E4 Submission

S1-E4 Submission

Catch Up

Steven Toast, terrible actor and atrocious human being, is recording commands for nuclear submarine evacuations. He’s not very good, despite producer Clem Fandango’s encouragement and insistence that Toast should make “Fire the nuclear weapons!” sound “less alarming. Just have fun with it.”

Toast’s love-life continues to be a wasteland as he tries to seduce a succession of barmy women. The latest is a stern, humourless nurse, Portia de Coogan, who has a growling Government minister for a dad. There’s some comedy business aboard a nuclear sub, but frankly, it’s all rather thin, even though Matt Berry remains delightfully repugnant as Toast. As ever, the best bits involve Toast and his idiot landlord, Ed Howzer-Black (Robert Bathurst).

Steven's new girlfriend, the aristocratic Portia de Coogan, thinks it's about time he met her father, Lord Fotheringham, and to make a good first impression, it's vital the actor tries to improve his sense of humour. Meanwhile, some voiceover work for the Royal Navy leads to a terrifying visit to the launch of a submarine. Comedy, starring Matt Berry.
