Educating Yorkshire

Series 1-Episode 1

Series 1-Episode 1

Catch Up

At last, a sequel to Educating Essex, the barnstorming, Bafta-winning series where cameras fixed on the wall of a secondary school revealed a forensically funny picture of day-to-day school life. The new series is set at a new school (Thornhill Community Academy near Dewsbury) but it has the same beat: the eternal battlefield of teachers versus teens. Our hero is dedicated head Mr Mitchell who believes that after 18 months in the job he is starting to turn the school round. He still spends too much of his time dealing with rule-breaking, painted-on eyebrows, the fallout from fights and smoking. One key storyline follows a possible case of racial abuse, after young Kamrrem is accused of trying to take another boy’s phone.

Documentary following life at Thornhill Community Academy near Dewsbury in West Yorkshire, as head teacher Jonny Mitchell tries to revolutionise the school's ethos, exam results and reputation. Along the way, he divides his time between fulfilling his ambitious plans and tackling a range of problems, from smokers and snowball fights to the more serious issue of allegations of racism among his teenage pupils.
