Review

Cheap coach fares and mass migration have turned Victoria Coach Station in London into a press of weary humanity, full of sleepy and disorientated people. Upwards of 32,000 passengers travel through it daily, often after epic journeys from Europe.

It’s another rich piece of tapestry from a fabulous series that’s brought to vivid life the capital’s vast public transport system. Inevitably cameras catch the unhappy and the furious: “You’re filming a s**t service,” says one woman. But we watch cheery staff cajole vast queues (“Let’s all be nice to each other”) and follow police officers as they talk gently to a sad young runaway.

Summary

Victoria Coach Station has been transformed as cheap fares and an influx of migrants from Eastern Europe have resulted in a 25 per cent increase in passengers in the last five years alone. Cameras follow Transport for London staff as they cope with the demand, while Sergeant Shaun Doyle deals with everything from a missing teenager to illegal immigrants and stowaways.
