The One Show’s resident gardener Christine Walkden is probably the most down-to-earth horticulturalist imaginable. But in this new series she takes to the skies in a hot-air balloon to see how some of our most beautiful gardens sit in the landscape. She started with Trebah Garden in Cornwall, “the most magical subtropical valley... I’ve never been here without being wildly excited.” She’s exhaustingly passionate about her subject.

Since then she’s floated over the Beth Chatto Gardens in Essex and in this episode she’s at Powis Castle Garden in Powys, where she learns to brace an ancient yew.

Horticulturist Christine Walkden visits Essex, where she experiments with triangular planting and has tea and cake at Beth Chatto Gardens. Plus, at RHS Hyde Hall she moves rocks with a former student, and then sails across the Thames to the Blackwater Estuary.
