A 1991 performance of Adolphe Adam's Giselle by the Bolshoi ballet company. Discovered in Russia's state archive, it has never before been broadcast outside the country's borders. Nina Ananiashvili plays the title role, a peasant girl who, following her premature death, works from beyond the grave to protect her lover from malevolent spirits. Opposite her, Victor Barykin dances the part of Albert, the nobleman pretending to be poor after falling in love with her.
