Episode 2: The Junior Professor Solution

Summary

Sheldon is forced to teach a course at the university, and Howard surprises the gang when he decides to enrol on it. Meanwhile, Amy plays Penny and Bernadette off against each other while the tension brews over Penny's new job. Comedy, guest starring Regina King (Southland), with Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco

Review

After last week’s slightly restrained series opener, Big Bang is firing on all measuring-cylinders again. Any episode that throws competition into the mix always works like a dream. In this instance, Caltech allows Sheldon to research what he wants — if he teaches a class. Unsurprisingly, not a single student signs up. Watch the boys struggling to react sympathetically when Sheldon says, “Apparently I have a reputation for being obnoxious.” So when Howard helps him out, sparks ensue.

Amy, meanwhile, warms to the task of go-between when Bernadette and Penny start to wind each other up. “You’re dating the popular girl now,” she boasts to Sheldon. Enjoy that while it lasts, Amy.
