Review

Ah, there’s nothing like a cosy festive-themed murder mystery to get us all in the mood for Christmas. So fetch a blanket, put on your thickest socks, maybe clutch a mug of hot chocolate, and have some harmless fun.

Of course, the story involves a Christmas house party… Poirot (David Suchet) is invited to spend the holiday with an unpleasant millionaire who has made his fortune from diamond prospecting and is behaving very oddly. He seems to be goading his sons into murder, which naturally doesn’t make for a particularly pleasant Christmas atmosphere.

The episode is from 1994, so it creaks a bit. But hey, it’s (nearly) Christmas. Who cares?

Summary

The dapper detective accepts an invitation to spend yuletide at the house of an elderly millionaire who seems intent on provoking his money-grubbing sons into murdering him. At first he tries hard to ignore the strained atmosphere and relax - but soon finds himself with a gruesome mystery on his hands. Agatha Christie whodunit, starring David Suchet and Philip Jackson.
