The first victim in scriptwriter Alan Plater’s genteel puzzle, first shown in 2008, is a self-consciously quirky and annoying female student (more than enough motive to bump her off, believe me) who runs bogus heritage tours of the city. She’s found dead with a snippet of a Shelley poem in her pocket.
Another victim is discovered in
the Bodleian Library — if you’re
going to be murdered, it might as well be in world-renowned academic surroundings, rather than by the bins — and the suspects in both cases are supercilious university professors. Cue wry looks from
and Hathaway (Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox).
Hathaway and Lewis investigate the death of a maintenance engineer found shot in the head in the basement of the Bodleian Library. A search of the man's house reveals a stash of valuable volumes and a connection to the local Gamblers Anonymous group, and the detectives go on to expose a scam involving two Oxford academics. Drama, guest starring Neil Pearson and Haydn Gwynne, with Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox.
