Review

An epic journey following the descent of the planet’s mightiest rivers from their mountain sources to the sea is revealed in all its spectacular, sweeping glory through the use of a helicopter-mounted camera in this glorious film first shown in 2006.

It’s a trip rich in surprises: we see underwater swimming monkeys; river dolphins in the Amazon showing off lumps of rock to win over a mate; showdowns between gangs of Indian otters and mugger crocodiles in Kenya’s Mara river; and some newly discovered underwater worlds including that of the world’s deepest lake, Baikal in Siberia, home to the only freshwater seal and bizarre giant amphipods.

Summary

A tour of the mightiest rivers in the world, from the deep waters of Siberia's Lake Baikal, home to the world's only freshwater seal, to the wetlands downstream of Earth's tallest waterfall patrolled by frenzied piranhas. There is also footage of the lightning-quick ambush of wildebeest by crocodiles in Africa and macaque monkeys swimming underwater to catch crabs in Indonesia. Presented by David Attenborough.
